Kā'anapali, Maui, February 7, 2022

It is Tuesday morning and I am sitting on the balcony watching the whales play, the paddle-boarders paddle and the sailboats ply the Lahaina Rhodes.  My cup of coffee is steaming and all is right with the world.

Monday was a good day.  First thing in the morning, Glenn and Sue drove us to the town of Kīhei which is on the eastern and larger volcano of the two volcanos that make up Maui.  Glenn and Sue kept the truck and Sandy and I picked up our wheels for the day.  A 1964 Porsche Roadster!  Jeez, this is even better than the truck!  We set out for Pā'ia, the spiritual beginning of the "Road to Hāna".  This road was built in 1926 and was the first time the rest of Maui was connected to the rain-forested eastern shores.  The drive itself is pure pleasure and that pleasure is multiplied tenfold when driving it in a Porsche Roadster.  The road is notoriously twisting and narrow, and road-handling commands every second of the driver's attention.  At the same time, the scenery demands that you stare at it in awe.  Somehow I split the difference and managed to make it as far as Ke'anae without incident.  We could go no farther as we had an important evening with friends ahead of us.  We will finish this trip (in the truck) in a few days.

These three ladies loved the car.  Sandy had them sit inside for the picture.  They loved that.
