I am sitting in the lobby of our hotel starting on this blog post. The rest of the crowd is still upstairs repairing their jet lag. A wonderful thing about the French Culture is that as soon as I sat down in the lobby I was offered a croissant and an expresso. I wanted neither but said “oui” to both, as, for the next four days, I wish to be French.

The overnight flight was hard, we flew in the back of the plane the seats were hard, and I cannot sleep sitting up. We had a “Welcome Pick-Up” driver waiting for us at the airport and Elizabeth and I both fell asleep quickly on the hour and a half ride to the hotel. There were some rumblings about someone snoring on the trip to the hotel, but honestly, I didn’t hear any.

After everyone reemerged we headed down to our first dinner together in a French Restaurant in France. I was proud of the grands as these very cautious eaters all ordered safe, but definitely French, inspired dishes.

After dinner we embarked on a sunset and champagne Seine River excursion. Several months ago I asked the kids to identify one thing that was truly important that they did not want to miss. The response was that they wanted to see the Tour d’Eiffel when it sparkled. The boat tour provided the perfect vantage point for the sparkling. WOW!

This being a champagne excursion, and Elizabeth being 18, the legal age for alcohol consumption in France, we thought that we we celebrate her first sip of an adult beverage. While she did join in the sipping of champagne, she was oddly silent on the “first sip” thing.
We'll just call this the first sip of champagne in France
