Island Hopping 2024: Giarratana, A trip to Ragusa

Thursday April  4:  This morning was just like yesterday, no hearing, no pain (as long as I kept the ibuprofen up).  We were running dangerously low on the ibuprofen and I was able to talk Sandy into going to the bigger town of Ragusa to get some.  Ragusa is an ancient and charming hilltop town.  The old city (Ragusa Ibla) is on my list of places to spend a day.  But today, it was my promise to Sandy, who still feels responsible for healing me, that we were going just to get necessary business done, no site seeing.  That business was; gasoline, ibuprofen from the farmacia, cash from an ATM, and finally a more complete grocery trip. Sandy cannot live on olives alone.

We accomplished every thing but it was all done in the New City (Ragusa Superiore).  Still, it was a fun trip.  As usual the sun was shining and the sky blue.  The weather here is now warm and comfortable.  The drive between Giarratana and Ragusa is on narrow and winding country roads, and the scenery is very pleasant.

The streets of Ragusa Superiore were reasonably easy to drive and after getting gas, drugs, and cash, we found a very good grocery store in the middle of a city mall.  It lacked the romantic charm of some of the street markets we have visited but it had what we needed. It was a good find.

In this shopping mall full of high end shops is a very good grocery store.

This was a pretty good day for us in Sicily!
