Åarhus, Denmark

It was hard to leave Ærøskøbing.  It is a town I could stay in for a month.  But part of traveling is that you travel, so today we have moved on to Åarhus (OAR-hoos).  We are still traveling by train (and a ferry to get off the island).

Waiting for the early morning ferry

Heading north again

Åarhus was founded in the 800s by the Vikings and is now a shipping center for the farm crops of Jutland (YEW-lan).  Jutland is that part of Denmark that pierces north into the North Sea.  It is flat and fertile.  Modern Åarhus also is the home of the important Åarhus University, and because of that, it is a technology center for Denmark.

Town pedestrian way

Canal in the city

After arriving in Åarhus and getting into our AirBnB, Sandy and I took a stroll through the pedestrian areas and along the canal which runs through the center of town.

The don't walk signal is a menacing looking Viking

Tree lined canal, so peaceful

Interesting sculptures in the city

This evening we finished up with a pizza and listening to the Buckeyes play Arkansas State.
