Havila Caster: The road from Geianger to Molde (8/19)

This is a pleasant way to travel.  While I’m still averse to the big “City Afloat” cruise ships (maybe someday I’ll come around), this small ship suits me just fine.  There is no swimming pool and no rock climbing wall, no organized deck games and no cruise directer.  What there is, however, are miles and miles of Norwegian shoreline interspersed with little cute as a button hamlets.  Our suite/cabin is on the port side of the boat so as we are traveling north we we are looking out to sea.  Of course, when we sail into a fjord we see one shoreline going in and the other going out.

Last night we sailed from Bergen around 10:30. While we were sleeping the Amazon packages were delivered to Florø.  I was up for the 10 minute stops this morning at Måløy , Torvik, and Ålesund.  At Geiranger we got off the Mail Ship and traveled by motor coach to Molde where we rebounded the Castor.  We took this trip to experience some of the inland views of all of the mountains that we are seeing from the fjords.  We were treated with dramatic views and even more dramatic roads from which the viewing took place.  I don’t mind driving difficult roads in foreign countries but in this case I was glad to let someone else do the driving.

This picture shows perfectly the U-shaped valleys formed by the glaciers.
The fjords are shaped like this under the surface of the water

This is the road the tour bus drove down

We found our way back to the Castor
