Bergen, Norway: Dale of Norway: Havila Caster (Wednesday 8/17)

Sandy is a BIG believer in Dale of Norway knitted clothing.  In planning this trip we saw that their facility was only about an hour out of Bergen.  Seemed like a good road trip to us.  Because the Norwegian build tunnels through their mountains rather than roads over them, the trip out was a pleasant and picturesque drive along a fjord and its valley.  Strapped for time Sandy did not get to tour the factory but she was able to see thousands of sweaters, scarves and hats made by the master knitters.  Purchases were made.

Racing back to the Bergen airport we dropped off the rental car at the airport, caught a city bus back to Bergen and the mail boat terminal and boarded the Havila Castor.  Shortly thereafter she set out to sea.  The Havila Castor is chartered as a Norwegian Mail ship and does have the cargo capacity for six railroad cars and 190 pallets.  Amazon deliveries are an important part of their business plan as well as are the passengers that she carries.  By law, the Castor must go into the many small towns at the end of many of the fjords of Norway.  This means the boats are relatively small.  The Castor has 179 cabins for passengers.  Our room is a suite, roomy and quite luxurious considering some of the boats that I have put Sandy on in the past.
