Volcano, Big Island (Hawai'i Island), February 13, 2022

House was a little chilly this morning making crawling off of that heated mattress a little harder but also making cuddling up to that first cup of coffee so much more rewarding.  I walked around the bungalow and appreciated even more our rainforest setting.

For breakfast we headed to the "Lava Rock Cafe" where I finally enjoyed my first Loco Moco, actually the Ola Loco Moco, which simply doubled the size of the Loco Moco.  The Loco Moco is a bed of rice, a highly seasoned beef paddy, an over-easy fried egg all smothered with a brown gravy.  Of course, my "Ola" had two of all that.  I don't know who came up with this dish, you can get it all over the islands, but whoever it was ... the man was a genius!  After some light site seeing in Hilo, a little grocery shopping, and a disappointing Super Bowl, I made a grilled "spam and cheese" sandwich.  It was no Loco Moco but I enjoyed it nonetheless.

The floor of the Lava Rock Cafe fittingly enough, looks like lava.
