After driving the Jemez Scenic Trail, Sandy and I stopped at the "Legal Tender Saloon and Eating House" in Lamy, NM. This place is about a forty minute drive south of Santa Fe. It was recommended to me by the person running the La Castaneda Hotel in Las Vegas. This is why it always pays to get the opinions of the locals when choosing a place to eat. Lamy is a very, very small town. To get to this town I had to turn down a secondary road which was surprising since I thought I was already on a secondary road. I was starting to question the accuracy of the GPS until we came into a collection of three buildings, the town, and one of those buildings was the "Legal Tender Saloon and Eating House". This is not the kind of place most people from Ohio are going to walk into. The food is delicious, the drinks interesting and constructed correctly, but what immediately got my attention was the beautiful Brunswick Bar. To put this all in perspective my first job out of college was with Brunswick Corporation Headquarters, then in Skokie, IL. I still have a good feeling about the company. From the late 1880's until 1917 Brunswick produced magnificent bars and shipped them across the the country. There are still a few out there and it was a surprise to find one here in the high desert town of Lamy. When a Brunswick bar was delivered and installed in a town, it made the news. I think the 1880's would have fit me like a glove. If we are ever in Santa Fe or Albuquerque again, this is a place to which I will return.
Beautiful Brunswick Bar and a talented mixologist
Wonder if the Cherry Street Pub (aka Johnson's, aka ...) in Lancaster has a Brunswick bar?
ReplyDeleteI don’t know, if it does I plan on being a regular.
