 DESTINATION: Lake Havasu City, AZ

We started out in civilization…Kingman, AZ.

Then Carl says we are going to go over a mountain pass…okay…we’re in an air conditioned car, have plenty of gas, and it’s a pass…so easy peasy.

Now, for the REST of the story.  Just one missed turn…in the hot Mojave desert…in an Indian reservation…where the word “road” really only meant “trail”.

What’s a tree growing in the middle of the “road/trail”???

No worries…I see where we are supposed to be going…looks pretty far though…

Now things get very interesting going up to the pass…sometimes you even meet up with some friends!

We finally get to Oatman, AZ.  This was a gold mining town in the mid 1800s and in 1915 prospectors again struck a $10 million gold vein.  This caused a growth of population of 3,500 in just a year.  However, now it is just a Route 66 spot to enjoy some wild burros, a gunfight, and a little history.

Here is the sheriff…

…and here is the bad guy who just stole a bag of money from the bank…he won the gun battle by the way

The burros found their way into town where visiting travelers enjoy feeding and petting them.

The Oatman post office, actually in service
