Saturday April 6: Today, adventurer was a whirlwind tour of some of the island's most enchanting towns, each offering its own unique blend of history, culture, and of course, chocolate. We used the little towns as lighthouses to guide us through the ever-changing and dramatic scenery of this corner of Sicily.
Terraced and walled fields
Our first stop is Modica, a charming hilltop town renowned for its rich chocolate heritage. Modica's unique chocolate-making tradition dates back centuries, rooted in the ancient Aztec techniques brought to Sicily by the Spanish conquistadors.
We determined that Modica is a city worth visiting again. The rest of the day was spent traveling through interesting scenery as we wound our way to the southern coast and then back up to Ragusa and and finally on to Giarrantana.
This drive took us into deep gorges and across high ridges. For a short distance we drove along Mediterranean coast and then on a flat plain. Everything is getting very green now in Sicily at times is reminiscent of some of Irelands countryside.
Along the MediterraneanWe came home, prepared our own pasta dinner and reflected on the day. We can’t help but feel grateful for the opportunity to explore this corner of Sicily.
