Today we moved from Crete to Rome. Getting up 3:30AM to catch a 6:30 flight to Athens and then connecting on to Rome, left me in a sleep deprived condition all day long.
We are visiting Rome for two days almost as an accident. No matter how I looked at it, in order to get us to our next destination we had to layover in Rome. So, I figured rather than spend just two hours in Rome, why not two days in Rome. This is still not enough time to truly see the city, but better than nothing. Also, Sandy was getting a little tired of all the archaeological sites, so I thought a little break in Rome might be nice, because, you know, there is no archaeology in Rome.
Of course the two day plan was immediately abandoned on arrival. We checked into the airport hotel and I still needed the remaining three and a half hours of sleep that I lost by getting up so ridiculously early. So I took a little afternoon nap and after waking up from that there simply wasn’t enough time for the 45 minute taxi drive into Rome and doing some site-seeing. We determined it best to just hang out at the hotel so that we could get a solid start for a day in Rome tomorrow.
We did walk back to the airport just to get familiar with it. It used to be said that “All roads lead to Rome”, well now we can say all airlines lead to Rome. While walking through the airport we saw every major airline and direct flights to and from every major city that I could think of.
We finished the night with a gratis Aperitivo at the hotel bar, and a shared pasta in the restaurant.
Lamb tagliatelle, I forgot to take the picture until all but one bite was left.
