Today we walked to the Nyhavn (New Harbor) to take canal/harbor cruise of the city. This was a pleasant way to spend a sunny day in Copenhagen. The cruise took us past a number of buildings, old and new that we would not have otherwise seen. We finished the day with some gelato and another classic Danish hot dog.
Copenhagen burns its rubbish to make energy. The building is constructed so that rock climbers can ascend it and in the winter it is a ski jump.
The most well known attraction in Copenhagen...
The little mermaid from Hans Christian Andersen's fairy tale.
A Christian IV building, note the three crowns; Denmark, Sweden and Norway
Bicycles stacked two high at the train station.
That first leg of the trip was on two wheels.
Another unusual opera house
Lots of great canal scenes
The Danish architects love these spiral towers; there are several throughout the city
This spiral is made from the tails of three dragons
Copenhagen's water airport with scheduled flights to other Danish Seaports
There is a flight to Aarhus, a town we will visit. If I had only known!
The National Library, also known as the black diamond
A retired miniature submarine. It participated in the Iraq war. So why would you send a submarine to a desert war?
Christiania; a 51year old hippy squatters settlement. About 900 people live there today.
Sandy and I ate our gelato in the shadow of this King of Denmark.
