Volcano, Big Island (Hawai'i Island), February 21, 2022

Today was a day of relaxation around our jungle bungalow.  I spent some of the day on the back deck reading and listening to the tropical birds.  I also did a little personal accounting, and planning and booking a few reservations for a trip we plan on taking towards the end of the summer.

I did, however, take the time to drive down the south side of the mountain to the Punalu'u Bake shop to pick up some Malasadas.  About 50 minutes each way plus standing in line for 20 minutes.  Why would anybody commit over two hours to picking up a half dozen doughnuts?

First, because these are really good.  (Malasadas came when the Portuguese immigrated to Hawai'i to work the sugar plantations)  Secondly, the views coming and going were worth the trip even if there had not been a delicious treat involved.
