 Still at the Grand Canyon

We took a hike along the South Rim and of course, there are no adequate words to describe such an astounding phenomenon of nature that has been evolving for two billion years.

This is a long distance shot of the Bright Angel Trail at about halfway down to the bottom of the canyon.  It’s meaningful to me because about 20 years ago Carl and I (with about six others) rode mules down to the bottom of the canyon and stayed overnight at the Phantom Ranch.  And early the next morning we rode our mules back up to the top (even though it was tough getting back on my saddle sores).  Down at the bottom left of this photo is the oasis called Indian Springs where we rested our mules for their hard 8 hour trip back up (they sweated a lot and we had to rest them more often).  It still looks like the trail goes right off the edge, but somehow we made it down the rest of the way to the bottom. This was a thrill of a lifetime but I had no desire to relive it this time.

And this is my man who makes me do crazy things like riding mules down a canyon.

This a mule deer with antlers that watched us walk by.

These were rock samples from different segments from different levels and ages of the canyon.  They have an interesting timeline on the South Rim that helps one understand what a micro dot we are on earth.

Tonight we went on a sunset tour and we enjoyed seeing the slow motion of the light show put on by Mother Nature.

Goodbye, Grand Canyon, goodbye…I think this will be the last time we spend time together.
